Composition
• Active tablets (21): ethinylestradiol + progestin (combined oral contraceptive hormones)
• Inactive tablets (7): ferrous fumarate (iron)
Uses/Indication
• Prevention of pregnancy (oral contraception)
• Regulation of menstrual cycle
• Relief of dysmenorrhea and heavy menstrual bleeding
• May help manage PMS, endometriosis and PCOS symptoms
Direction of use
• Take 1 tablet daily at the same time each day with water
• Follow 28-day cycle: 21 active tablets then 7 iron tablets
• Start on Day 1 of menstruation or as directed
• If not started on Day 1, use backup contraception for the first 7 days
• If a pill is missed for more than 24 hours, take as soon as remembered and use barrier protection until 7 consecutive days of correct use

Warning/interactions, Caution
• Contraindicated in pregnancy, thromboembolic disorders, estrogen-dependent cancers, severe liver disease, uncontrolled hypertension and migraine with aura
• Enzyme-inducing drugs (e.g. carbamazepine, phenytoin, rifampicin, St. John’s Wort) may reduce contraceptive effectiveness
• CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. ketoconazole, erythromycin) may increase hormone levels
• May interact with medicines such as lamotrigine, theophylline and cyclosporin
• Use with caution in diabetes, migraines, obesity, systemic lupus, gallbladder disease and thyroid disorders
