Product Name: MicrogynonFe 

Composition:

  • Active (21 days): Ethinylestradiol 30µg, Levonorgestrel 150µg
  • Inactive (7 days): Ferrous Fumarate 75mg (iron supplement)

 

Uses/Indication:

  • Used for contraception, preventing pregnancy by suppressing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus, and altering the uterine lining
  • Also used for regulating menstrual cycles and managing menstrual-related symptoms  

 

Direction of Use:

  • Take one tablet daily at approximately the same time each day for 28 consecutive days (no pill-free break)
    • 21 active hormone tablets followed by 7 iron-containing inactive tablets
  • Start on Day1 of menstrual cycle for immediate protection; if starting between Days25, use additional contraceptive methods for 7 days
  • If switching from other hormonal contraceptives or postpartum, follow specific medical guidance and possibly use backup measures for 7 days  

 

Side Effects:

  •  nausea, headache, breast tenderness, mood changes, weight fluctuations, spotting or breakthrough bleeding during early cycles
  • vomiting, diarrhea, migraines, loss of libido, fluid retention, itchy rash
  • blood clots, breast cancer risk, jaundice, lens intolerance, irregular discharge  

 

Warning/Interactions, Caution:

  • Contraindications: Pregnancy, history of venous or arterial thrombosis, hormone-sensitive cancers, severe liver disease, migraine with aura, unexplained vaginal bleeding  
  • Interactions: Liver enzyme inducers (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine, rifampicin) may reduce contraceptive efficacy; also caution with antibiotics, antiretrovirals, St. John’s wort, grapefruit juice  
  • Other precautions: Smoking, obesity, age >35, immobilisation—higher clot risk; those with mental health history should monitor mood changes  

 

Use in Special Populations:

  • Pregnancy/Lactation: Not to be used during pregnancy. Paracetamol-level exposure in breast milk is considered minimal, but use only if advised by a clinician  
  • Liver/Renal Impairment: Use with caution under medical supervision, particularly with existing liver dysfunction  

 

Storage:

  • Store in original packaging, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Discard any used pack or broken seal responsibly
