PRODUCT DETAILS

Ideos Chewable Tablets provide 500mg of calcium and 400 IU of vitamin D3 per tablet. They are commonly used to prevent or treat deficiencies in calcium or vitamin D3, particularly in conditions like osteoporosis where these nutrients are essential for maintaining bone health.

 

Composition:

  • Calcium Carbonate 1250 mg (equivalent to 500 mg elemental calcium)
  • Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D₃) 400 IU (≈ 10 µg; provided as 4 mg concentrate powder)
  • Excipients include xylitol, sorbitol (~475 mg), sucrose (~1.5 mg), magnesium stearate, lemon flavoring, gelatin, povidone, corn starch, alpha‑tocopherol, and partially hydrogenated soybean oil

 

Uses / Indication:

  • Treatment and prevention of calcium and vitamin D deficiency in adults and the elderly
  • Adjunctive therapy in osteoporosis when there is a risk or presence of calcium and vitamin D deficiency

 

Direction of Use:

  • Adults (≥18 years): Chew 1 tablet twice daily (morning and evening), preferably after meals
  • Method: Chew or suck the tablet completely before swallowing, followed by a glass of water

 

Side Effects:

  • Uncommon/rare: Constipation, diarrhea, epigastric pain, flatulence, nausea, rash, pruritus, urticaria
  • Very rare: Hypercalcaemia and hypercalciuria (may lead to kidney stones) Warnings / Interactions / Caution:
  • Contraindications:
    • Allergy to calcium, vitamin D₃, soya, or peanuts (due to soya oil content)
    • Hypercalcaemia or hypercalciuria (e.g., primary hyperparathyroidism, bone metastases, multiple myeloma)
    • History of calcium-containing kidney stones or nephrocalcinosis
    • Severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73 m²) and hypervitaminosis D
  • Interactions:
    • Avoid co-administration with iron, zinc, bisphosphonates, thyroid hormones — allow 2-hour interval
    • With tetracyclines: 3-hour interval recommended to reduce absorption interference
    • Food high in oxalic acid (e.g., spinach, rhubarb), phosphates, or phytic acid (e.g., whole grains, pulses) should be spaced from intake to prevent absorption issues
  • Precautions:
    • Monitor serum and urinary calcium levels periodically during long-term use, especially in the elderly and those on cardiac glycosides or diuretics
    • Use with caution in sarcoidosis or granulomatous disorders due to altered vitamin D metabolism
    • Minimize daily doses—do not exceed 1 tablet/day in pregnancy or breastfeeding unless instructed by a physician
