Composition

Each 20mg tablet contains 20mg Atorvastatin (as atorvastatin calcium)

Uses/Indications

Atorvastatin belongs to a category of lipid (fat) regulating medicines known as statins, it is used to lower lipids known as cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood.

Dosage

The recommended starting dose of Atorvastatin is 20mg once daily in adults and children aged 10 years and above. Tablet should be swallowed whole with a drink of water, with or without food. 

Side Effects

Common: Sinusitis, allergic reations, increase in blood glucose levels, headaches, muscle pain, nausea, constipation.

Severe(Uncommon) : Rhabdomyolysis,Visual disturbances, cholestasis, hearing loss, liver problems, myasthenia gravis. 

Warnings/Drug Interactions 

Liver function: Monitor liver enzymes before and during treatment

Muscle toxicity: Risk of myopathy or rhabdomyolysis—report unexplained muscle pain or weakness

Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding – contraindicated

Grapefruit juice – may increase blood levels of atorvastatin (limit or avoid)

Certain antibiotics/antifungals (e.g., clarithromycin, itraconazole) – increase risk of muscle toxicity

Cyclosporine, digoxin, oral contraceptives, warfarin – may require monitoring or dosage adjustment

Caution in patients with alcoholism, liver disease, or renal impairment
