Composition
• Paracetamol 125 mg per suppository
Uses/Indication
• Relief of mild to moderate pain
• Reduction of fever
• Suitable for patients unable to take oral medicines (e.g. children, vomiting, post-operative patients)
Direction of use
• Route: rectal administration only
• Children 1–5 years (10–20 kg): 1 suppository every 4–6 hours
• Maximum: up to 4 doses per 24 hours unless otherwise advised
• Insert suppository whole; do not break
• Insert pointed end into rectum, preferably after bowel movement
• Do not use for more than 3 days unless advised by a doctor
Side effects
• Redness or soreness around the rectal area
• Skin rash, urticaria or allergic reactions
• Blood disorders such as thrombocytopenia or agranulocytosis
• Liver problems such as jaundice
• Metabolic acidosis in vulnerable patients
Warning/interactions, Caution
• Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to paracetamol or excipients including soybean or peanut derivatives
• Do not use with other paracetamol-containing medicines
• Use cautiously in liver or kidney impairment, malnutrition, chronic alcoholism or sepsis
• Store below 25–30 °C in original packaging and keep out of reach of children
