- Bendrofluazide – 2.5 mg per tablet
- Excipients: starch, lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and other tablet excipients

2. Uses / Indications
Bendrofluazide is used for:
- Hypertension – to lower blood pressure
- Edema associated with:
- Heart failure
- Liver cirrhosis
- Renal disease (nephrotic syndrome)
- Occasionally used for prevention of kidney stones (reducing calcium excretion)
Mechanism:
- Inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule, leading to mild diuresis and reduction in blood pressure.
3. Direction for Use
- Adults: Usually 2.5–5 mg once daily, taken in the morning
- Children: Dose determined by a physician based on weight
- Take with or without food
- Avoid taking late in the day to prevent nocturia
4. Side Effects
Common:
- Frequent urination
- Electrolyte disturbances (low potassium, sodium, magnesium)
- Dizziness or hypotension
- Muscle cramps or weakness
Rare:
- Hyperglycemia
- Allergic reactions
- Photosensitivity
- Gout flare (due to uric acid retention)
5. Warnings / Interactions / Cautions
- Monitor electrolytes, kidney function, and blood pressure regularly
- Use cautiously in patients with:
- Kidney disease
- Diabetes
- Gout
- Heart disease
- May interact with:
- ACE inhibitors, digoxin, lithium, corticosteroids, NSAIDs
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: only if clearly indicated and monitored
- Take adequate water to avoid dehydration
- Avoid sudden discontinuation without medical advice
