• Ethyl Alcohol (Ethanol) – typically 95–96% v/v
• Water – balance
• May contain denaturing additives or coloring agents

2. Uses / Indications

ECL Methylated Spirit is used for:

• Disinfection of minor cuts, abrasions, and surfaces
• Cleaning and sanitizing skin before minor procedures
• Household or laboratory cleaning purposes
• Cooling effect when applied to the skin (evaporation causes cooling)

Mechanism:

• Ethanol denatures proteins of microorganisms, inactivating bacteria, viruses, and fungi
• Methanol is toxic if ingested; acts as a denaturant

3. Direction for Use

• Apply externally on skin or surfaces with cotton, swab, or cloth
• Do not ingest
• Allow the solution to evaporate naturally; do not rinse immediately

4. Side Effects

• Skin dryness or irritation
• Burning or stinging on broken skin
• Rare allergic reactions
• Highly flammable
