- Acute Infectious Diarrhea: Treatment of sudden-onset diarrhea in adults and children.
- Antibiotic-Associated Diarrhea: Prevention and treatment of diarrhea caused by taking antibiotics.
- C. difficile Recurrence: Used alongside standard treatments to prevent the return of Clostridium difficile infections.
- Tube-feeding Diarrhea: Prevention of diarrhea in patients receiving enteral nutrition.
Direction of Use
- Dosage: * Adults: 1 or 2 capsules, taken once or twice daily (up to 4 capsules per day).
- Children (>6 years): 1 to 2 capsules daily.
- Method: Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. It can be taken with or without food.
- Note for Children: For children under 6, capsules are usually not recommended due to choking risks; a sachet (powder) form is typically used instead.
Side Effects
Bioflor is generally well-tolerated, but some individuals may experience:
- Common: Flatulence (gas) or mild bloating.
- Rare: Constipation or thirst.
- Very Rare: Allergic reactions such as itching, skin rash, or hives (urticaria).
- Severe (Extremely Rare): Fungemia (yeast entering the bloodstream), primarily in hospitalized or severely immunocompromised patients.
Warning/Interactions, Caution
- Temperature Sensitivity: Because the yeast is alive, do not mix the contents with very hot (over 50°C), iced, or alcoholic drinks/foods, as this can kill the probiotic.
- Drug Interactions: Do not take with antifungal medications (oral or systemic), as they will neutralize the effect of the probiotic yeast.
- Lactose Intolerance: Contains lactose; avoid if you have congenital galactosemia or glucose-galactose malabsorption.
- Critical Illness: Strictly avoid if you have a central venous catheter or are severely immunocompromised, as there is a risk of the yeast entering the bloodstream.
- Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Generally advised to avoid as a precautionary measure unless specifically recommended by your doctor.
[CAUTION] If diarrhea persists for more than 2 days, or if you notice blood in the stool or develop a fever, consult a doctor immediately.
