Composition

  • Aluminium Hydroxide – 100 mg per 5 mL
  • Magnesium Hydroxide – 100 mg per 5 mL
  • Simethicone – 50 mg per 5 mL
  • Oxethazine – 10 mg per 5 mL
  • Sodium Alginate – 80 mg per 5 mL
  • Excipients: purified water, sweeteners, preservatives, flavoring agents

Drug class:

  • Combination antacid, antiflatulent, mucosal protectant, and antiemetic/antihistamine

 

Uses / Indications

Gastrone Plus Suspension is used for:

  • Relief of heartburn, acid indigestion, and upset stomach
  • Neutralization of gastric acid
  • Relief from gas, bloating, and flatulence
  • Protection of gastric mucosa (sodium alginate forms a protective barrier)
  • Nausea and vomiting associated with gastric discomfort (oxethazine)

 

Mechanism:

  • Aluminium hydroxide + magnesium hydroxide – neutralize stomach acid
  • Simethicone – breaks down gas bubbles, relieving bloating
  • Sodium alginate – forms a protective mucosal barrier
  • Oxethazine – mild antihistamine with antiemetic and sedative properties

 

Direction for Use

  • Adults: 15 mL (2–3 teaspoonfuls) after meals or at bedtime, up to 2 times daily
  • Children: Not recommended for use in children
  • Shake well before use
  • Use a measuring spoon or cup for accurate dosing

 

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Mild constipation (from aluminium hydroxide)
  • Mild diarrhea (from magnesium hydroxide)
  • Mild drowsiness or sedation (from oxethazine)
  • Mild stomach discomfort or nausea
  • Rare allergic reactions

 

Warnings / Interactions / Cautions

  • Do not exceed the recommended dose
  • Use cautiously in patients with:
    • Kidney disease (risk of aluminium/magnesium accumulation)
    • Heart disease (if sodium load is a concern)
    • Sedation-sensitive individuals (due to oxethazine)
  • May interfere with absorption of certain drugs (tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, iron supplements)
  • Shake well before use and store in a cool, dry place
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: consult a doctor before use
