Composition

  • Magnesium Trisilicate – 50 mg
  • Sodium Bicarbonate – 50 mg
  • Light Magnesium Carbonate – 50 mg
  • Peppermint Oil – 0.25 mL (concentrated peppermint emulsion)

Uses / Indications

ECL Antacid Mixture is used for:

  • Relief of heartburn and acid indigestion
  • Neutralization of excess stomach acid
  • Relief from gas, bloating, and mild dyspepsia
  • Sometimes used as supportive treatment for gastritis or mild peptic discomfort

 

Mechanism:

  • Magnesium trisilicate and magnesium carbonate – react with hydrochloric acid to form water and neutral salts, reducing acidity
  • Sodium bicarbonate – provides quick acid neutralization
  • Peppermint oil – helps relax gastrointestinal smooth muscles and improves digestive comfort

 

Direction for Use

  • Adults: 10–20 mL (about 2–4 teaspoonfuls) after meals or at bedtime, up to 4 times daily
  • Children( 5 -12 YEARS): 5ml to 10ml to be taken 3- 4 times a day after meals Dose adjusted according to age; consult a doctor
  • Route: Oral, shake well before use
  • Can be taken after meals or when symptoms occur

 

Side Effects

Generally mild and uncommon, but may include:

  • Mild diarrhea (from magnesium)
  • Mild constipation (from carbonate salts)
  • Stomach cramps (rare)
  • Belching due to CO₂ release from bicarbonate
  • Allergic reactions to peppermint oil are rare

 

Warnings / Interactions / Cautions

  • Do not exceed the recommended dose
  • Avoid prolonged use without medical supervision
  • Use cautiously in patients with:
    • Kidney disease (magnesium and carbonate accumulation risk)
    • Heart disease (sodium load may affect fluid balance)
  • May interfere with absorption of certain drugs (e.g., tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, iron supplements)
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: consult a doctor before use
  • Shake well before use and store in a cool, dry place
