Uses / Indication

Plavix 75 mg is an antiplatelet medication used to prevent harmful blood clots. It is commonly prescribed for:

  • Prevention of heart attack (myocardial infarction)
  • Prevention of stroke
  • Peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
  • Patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS)
  • Patients who have undergone coronary stent placement

It works by preventing platelets in the blood from sticking together, thereby reducing the risk of clot formation.

 

Direction for Use

  • Take one tablet (75 mg) once daily or as directed by a healthcare professional.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water.
  • It may be taken with or without food.
  • Take the medication at the same time each day for best results.
  • Do not stop taking the medication without consulting a doctor, as this may increase the risk of clot formation.

 

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Easy bruising
  • Bleeding (nosebleeds, prolonged bleeding from cuts)

Warnings / Interactions

Plavix may interact with several medications, including:

  • Aspirin and other blood thinners (may increase bleeding risk)
  • Warfarin
  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen
  • Omeprazole and Esomeprazole (may reduce the effectiveness of clopidogrel)
  • Certain antidepressants such as SSRIs

Patients with active bleeding conditions (e.g., stomach ulcers or brain hemorrhage) should not use this medication unless advised by a doctor.
